Building Confidence

Horses base their relationships on respect and leadership.  Many times even problems under saddle can be solved by going back to rebuilding leadership on the ground. Possibly the most important step in horse training is building trust.  Right from the beginning I go through special care to develop a relationship based on trust with every horse I work with. Insecurity is common in any horse learning something new be it riding for the first time or learning a new discipline.  It is crucial to successful training to create a supportive environment to allow the horse to learn and build confidence.

Training Theory
In his natural environment the horse does not encounter flags, cars, ropes, guns, crowds, and bicycles.  He does not need to perform pre-scripted reining patterns, jump courses, or pull a cow to the branding fire.   It is Important for him to adapt in order to succeed in life in our world, however we don't want to diminish the natural born spirit of the horse.  I want to encourage curiosity, personality, freedom, and of course let them maintain a mind of their own while at the same time developing a well-rounded horse that can successfully participate in any realm of equestrian sport.
